Frequently Asked Questions

Filter By Category Or Search To Find An Answer

  • Origin
  • Can I see when somebody has unlocked the door?

Yes, the app provides a full audit trail of who has used the Origin and when. (Make sure to name fingerprints/key-cards on the app, so you know who it was!)

If your Origin is connected to the WiFi hub, your history will be constantly up to date. If your Origin isn’t connected to WiFi hub, the history will update when you unlock the door via the app, or you will need to do a data synchronisation.

  • Can I control my Origin remotely?

Yes, if you have the Blusafe WiFi hub. This connects your Origin to connect to the internet and allows you to control it from anywhere via the app, as long as your phone has an internet connection. You will be able to unlock your door, share e-Keys, remove e-Keys, remove fingerprints/key-cards, see lock history and get notifications.

  • Can I grant someone temporary access to the app?

Yes, you can choose the time and date range that you wish to grant access to a visitor. This is made possible via our app, which allows you to grant access to people that don’t have their fingerprint set on the Origin smart lock.

  • What happens if the batteries die? How do I open my door?

When the batteries are low, you will be prompted before they run out (roughly 100 uses of the handle left). You will hear a voice prompt every time you use the door saying ‘Low Battery’, until the batteries run out. You will be able to see the battery power remaining on the app, however if you have the WiFi hub paired, you will also receive notification alerts from the app, stating that the batteries are low and need changing.

We recommend changing the batteries as soon as you hear the prompt to avoid any issues.

IF the batteries do run out, there is a connection point located at the bottom of the external handle that connects to a standard 9V battery. This will give the handle enough power to operate and unlock, for you to then replace the 4xAA batteries on the internal handle. We recommend keeping one safely stored in case of emergencies, however 9V batteries can be purchased at most stores or car garages if required.

  • What happens if the battery dies and I’m outside of my home?

If your Origin Smart battery completely runs out, you can give temporary power via a 9V battery. There is a 9V battery terminal at the bottom of the external handle, simply touch a 9V battery to this and the handle will have enough power to open as normal. Once inside, please replace the 4x AA batteries straight away.

  • How long will the batteries last?

This varies depending on the standard of batteries installed and the frequency the handle is used. Please see the recommended battery life for each product:

Origin: New AA batteries will last roughly 6-12 months depending on the above factors.
Breeze: New AAA batteries will last roughly 6 months depending on the above factors.
Mirage: A full charge will last up to 200 days or 4,000 operations depending on usage and environment.

We recommend that batteries in the Breeze and Origin are changed every 6 months for optimum performance.

  • What is the Origin smart lock made from?

The Origin Smart is made of a robust zinc alloy and our advanced 7 layer plating process provides excellent corrosion resistance. The lock is fully waterproofed to make sure your lock can survive all weather conditions. The lock is built from robust materials and is designed for maximum security.

  • How is the lock powered?

Origin: 4xAA batteries. Please note that using better quality batteries will extend the battery life.
Breeze: 4xAAA batteries. Please note that using better quality batteries will extend the battery life.
Mirage: Internal rechargeable battery, charged via a micro-usb port.

  • Is the Origin smart lock easily broken?

No, our smart locks are made from the most durable, high-grade materials to ensure maximum security. Due to the fact that no key is used, locks can’t be picked making it even more secure.

  • Can I use rechargeable batteries in my lock?

No, unfortunately the Origin requires non-rechargeable AA alkaline batteries and the Breeze requires non-rechargeable AAA alkaline batteries.

The Mirage padlock features a built in rechargeable battery that is powered by a micro-usb cable.

  • Will I know if someone tries, but fails to open the door?

On the Blusafe Smart App, you can see a full activity log of who has opened the door and when. There is an alarm section that specifies when people try but fail to get into the door.

  • What happens if there is a power cut or the internet doesn’t work?

    Origin:
Blusafe Origin is battery operated and works via Bluetooth, therefore you are never locked out. You will still be able to use your fingerprint, key-card, App or wireless keypad if there is a power cut.
The only functionality that will be affected are those that require an internet connection, such as remotely controlling the lock and any Smart Home functions.

    Breeze:
Blusafe Breeze is battery operated and has no connection to the internet, therefore the lock will work regardless. If the batteries die, it still has a manual backup key.

    Mirage:
Blusafe Mirage is powered by an internal, rechargeable battery, therefore the lock will work providing it has charge. If the battery dies, it can be powered via a micro-usb cable.

  • How long will it take me to install the Origin smart lock?

We strongly recommend having the Origin Smart professionally installed, as doors can be complicated and have various issues. However, our videos enable you to install the lock quickly and easily, with installation and setup taking 30-60 mins typically. If you have any questions, contact us.

  • Will Blusafe Origin fit my door?

Blusafe Origin is designed to fit any door with a standard UK multi-point lock. In simple terms, if you have a uPVC or Composite door, then Origin will work. If you have a Wooden or Aluminium with a 92mm multi-point lock, Origin should also work.

Origin will not work on Traditional Latch locks, Mortice locks or standard Deadbolt locks.

If you are still unsure whether Origin will work on your door or you are unsure what a multi-point lock looks like, please feel free to email a picture of your door and lock to enquiries@blusafesolutions.co.uk and we will let you know ASAP.

  • How do I change the batteries of the Origin smart lock?

Simply remove the battery cover on the internal handle and replace the 4x AA batteries with 4 new ones. We recommend using high-quality batteries for a longer-lasting life.

  • How many users can I have on my Origin smart lock?

You can store up to 50 different fingerprints, up to 50 different IC cards (cards, tags or stickers) and unlimited e-keys that can be permanently or temporarily shared with users.

  • Will the door automatically lock when it loses battery or will it remain open?

This all depends on whether the lock was locked or open before the battery died. On most occasions, it will be locked, because the door will be shut. When the batteries run out, all information (fingerprints, key cards, users) will be stored, so when new batteries are installed, everything works as it did before.

  • How do I add fingerprints, IC cards/fob/stickers to the Origin?

The easiest way is via the app, however it can also be done manually on the handle. Please see the instruction manual or ‘How To Videos’ here for clear instructions.

App: Open the app whilst in bluetooth range of the handle, touch ‘Setting’ on your displayed handle, then touch ‘Fingerprints’ or ‘IC cards’. You can then see the fingerprints or IC cards already registered to the handle, simply touch the ‘+’ button in the top right of the screen to add another. Follow the instructions and name the fingerprint/IC card.

Handle: Push the set button (located on the inside handle under the bottom cover). Then either: press your fingerprint (at the top of the external handle) 4 separate times, in 4 different positions, OR; present the IC card/fob to the reading area (just above the lever on external handle)

  • Is it likely that the Origin smart lock won’t recognise my fingerprint?

It is unlikely that the Origin lock will not recognise your fingerprint after the first try, however, we recommend that you register at least 3 fingerprints, just in case. Make sure that your finger and the fingerprint pad are dry and free from dirt or grease. If for any reason it isn’t recognising your finger, please open the handle via the App or with a key card.

  • How do I connect my Origin to the app?

First, download the app, search ‘Blusafe’ on App Store or Google Play. Then register on the app, this is a quick process. Once logged into the app, press the ‘+’ in the top right of the screen, then allow the app to use your camera.

Then, locate the plastic setting cover, at the bottom of the internal handle. On the inside of the cover, you will see a QR code. Point your phone camera at the QR code for it to scan. Then on the external handle, touch just above the lever to wake up the handle. The app will pair, then listen to the 4 digit code spoken by the handle and enter it into the app. Name your handle, it will then show in the app.

It’s strong enough to hold up to anything except fairly large bolt cutters wielded by someone with enough strength to squeeze through a quarter-inch of steel. You can rest assured that your fingerprint padlock is just as secure, if not even more so, than a standard padlock. As it unlocks with your fingerprint, it is actually more secure than other options, since you can’t lose your key or risk somebody getting hold of your combination code.

  • Fingerprint Door Lock
  • How do you lock a fingerprint internal door lock?

Our Blusafe Breeze locking systems do not need fingerprints to lock. Instead, simply shut the door and we’ll take care of the rest. The system automatically locks once a door has been closed, and can only be opened again with a valid fingerprint, or a backup key. Inside of the room, it will operate like any other door handle.

    It really is that easy.

  • Can fingerprint internal door locks be hacked?

Blusafe smart locks use a biometric fingerprint sensor, which is much more secure than the old optical fingerprint sensor. So if you want to copy someone’s fingerprint from a wine glass like James Bond, it isn’t going to work. Blusafe smart locks also use AES128 encryption for communication (Bluetooth) which is the same security level as is used in banks. Also Blusafe smart locks have passed many stringent test certifications such as BSI/CE/BHMA.

Our Breeze internal door handles don’t use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, so there is no way to hack the lock and fingerprints can’t be cloned.

Origin Smart, our external door lock, uses a Wi-Fi bridge to connect to your smart home and give you connectivity from anywhere. To hack a Blusafe smart lock would mean hacking into Tuya, as our App is based on their platform. Tuya is the third biggest IoT provider in the world and has extremely high levels of security to protect against hacking of any smart home devices on their platform.

  • Will the Breeze fingerprint internal door lock fit my door?

Our Blusafe Breeze fingerprint internal door locks are designed to fit on any internal doors with a standard working latch. If your doors have an existing lock with a built in key hole, then Breeze won’t be suitable. However, Breeze can replace punch code locks commonly found on HMO bedroom doors.

So if your door ticks this box, then our Breeze system will work for you! They are ideal for bedroom doors, office doors, and more. If you can install a standard lock, you’ll be able to install a fingerprint lock as well.

If you are still unsure whether our product is suitable for your internal doors, contact us with any questions.

  • What happens if there is a power cut or the internet doesn’t work?

Whilst many fingerprint locks require the use of wifi or bluetooth in order to work, the Blusafe Breeze system does not. The fingerprint technology in the lock is battery operated and has no connection to the internet. Therefore the lock will work regardless of a power cut or the loss of internet.

If the batteries die, you are still provided with a manual backup key so you won’t be locked out. We do recommend changing the batteries every 6 months, depending on how frequently you use the lock, to prevent the use of the backup key.

  • Can I use rechargeable batteries in my fingerprint internal door lock?

Unfortunately, no, Our Blusafe Breeze fingerprint door lock requires four non-rechargeable AAA alkaline batteries. However, these batteries can last up to 6 months, so the benefits of using rechargeable ones are minimal for our products.

  • How many fingerprints can the breeze biometric door lock hold?

Our Blusafe Breeze biometric door can register up to 50 fingerprints at any one time with an easy set-up and reset process. This makes it ideal for uses such as shared student accommodations or offices, where a number of people may require access.

Students/tenants are also given a better feeling of privacy with fingerprint door locks, with no risk of a previous tenant still having keys to that room.

  • How is the fingerprint internal door lock powered?

The Breeze fingerprint door lock is powered with 4xAAA batteries. Please keep in mind that using better quality batteries will extend the battery life.

  • How long will the batteries last?

The answer to this will depend on the standard of batteries installed and how frequently the handle is used. We recommend that the batteries are replaced every 6 months for optimum performance. However, if certain locks are rarely used then this time period could be extended. The higher the standard of batteries, the longer they will last.

Before the device runs out of power, you will receive low battery warnings for around the last 200 operations.

  • Is the Blusafe Breeze internal door lock suitable for my door?

Our Breeze fingerprint door locks are suitable for all internal doors that use a standard latch to close. Your door likely has standard handles with no lock and a latch. It may use a different type of handle that operates the latch, such a push button turn lock on a HMO bedroom, in this case Breeze can replace this as a fingerprint door lock.

However, if your internal doors have a key hole, then this already has a locking mechanism in place and Breeze wouldn’t be suitable.

  • How secure are fingerprint internal door locks?

Fingerprint internal door locks offer a higher level of security for your home. They are tougher to defeat than standard key locks, and not only use your fingerprints but also come with 2 back up keys. You can add additional fingerprints to the system, allowing access only to friends and family.

The Blusafe Breeze door locks can secure individual rooms within a property or office building, increasing privacy and security standards. Because our door lock can be opened with a back-up key as well as a fingerprint, you never need to worry about being locked out.

  • How do fingerprint internal door locks work?

Our Blusafe Breeze door locks are easy to fit on any internal door with a standard latch. After installation, setting up your fingerprints is simple.

You will be provided with a set tool which needs to be inserted before registering a fingerprint. The first three prints are classified as admins and therefore can authorise any new fingerprints that might be added.

The biometric system is only accessible on the outside, meaning you do not need your fingerprint to exit your room or office. The door automatically locks when fully shut, and can only be reopened with a registered fingerprint or the backup key.

If you want to leave the door unlocked instead of it locking automatically, you can just leave the backup key turned in the handle and operate it normally. When you want it to automatically lock again, just remove the key.

  • How do you reset a fingerprint internal door lock?

For landlords with new tenants or homeowners who want to remove someone’s access, resetting the lock is simple.
Blusafe Breeze locking systems provide you with a set tool key for different purposes, one of these is for resetting. Place the tool into the door handle and hold down the button for 8 seconds, you should hear a beep to tell you the system has been reset. Once this step is complete, you will need to add an admin fingerprint to activate the system once again.

  • What to do if your fingerprint internal door lock stops working

The batteries in a fingerprint internal door lock should last 6 months, so once they have run out you will need to replace them. You will also receive low battery warnings for approximately 200 operations before the batteries die. Blusafe Breeze biometric locking systems come with a key for this very reason. When your lock has no power, it can still be opened with the spare key before you replace the batteries
If you believe your product is faulty, or isn’t working perfectly on new batteries, contact us for assistance and we will respond as soon as possible. Or, don’t hesitate to call us on 01904230190.

  • What are fingerprint internal door locks used for?

Fingerprint internal door locks have a whole range of purposes. Spanning both internal doors and external doors, you can secure your entire home with nothing more than your fingerprint.

Our Blusafe Breeze locks are for internal purposes only, so can be used for bedrooms, offices, or any internal door that you would like locking. They are installed for privacy reasons, especially in shared homes, and are perfect for landlords renting out to multiple tenants.

They excel in keeping people out.

  • Are fingerprint internal door locks safer than key locks?

Our Blusafe Breeze biometric fingerprint systems lock instantly when you shut the door, unlike many standard key locks, providing you a higher sense of security in your home.

  • Can I pair more than one phone with my Origin?

You can share permanent or temporary e-keys with whoever you like. However, only one phone can be the admin user and pair directly with the app. The admin can then share e-keys from their account.

  • If I share an e-Key to someone, do they also need to have the app?

Yes, the user will need to have the app downloaded and they need to register. This is for security reasons, so that their phone can create a secure key connection and also so you can see who has used the lock on the lock history.
